That doesn't sound at all fair, and I wouldn't pay any of their charges, if you were within the limit then its tough sh*t that they have reduced the limit and your over it now, its their fault, tell them to stick the charges and then get your limit down under it as quickly as possible now.0

Hi STORMS GIRL
This seems like very sharp practice by MINT and flies in the face of the Banking Code which RBS signs up to.
Have you tried calling them? If not, give it a go and ask to speak to a manager. If you have already called them and had no joy, make a formal written complaint. If you don't get a satisfactory result from your written complaint refer it to the Financial Ombudsman.
It seems your having some financial difficulty so I'd advise you visit the Debt Free Wannabe board for advice. You should also follow through on your suggestion of visiting the CAB or other professional advice service like the CCCS.
Hope things get better for you,

Hi STORMS GIRL
Both myself and my house mate have mint cards and the limit have just been reduced but we are both not spending on them. The limit on mine was reduced to £3.76 above the balance and my house mate informs me his was similar circa £5 above his outstanding balance.
With this in mind have you spent on the card recently? It might be worth bearing in mind for any discussions you have as they may have lowered it to very close to your balance and then you spent. I am still sure you shouldn't be charged in this circumstance if you received notification AFTER you have spent and AFTER the limit has been lowered.
Lets hope you get mint to give you all charges back at least!A+L Loan £168 Hitachi Loan £0 Bank of dad £19,664

I had several card companies lower my limits a few months back. Whenever they did it, they always lowered them to between £50 - £500 more than my then current balance. The one that lowered to within £50 (Goldfish) theoretically could have left me stranded in Spain. As they never give any notice (in case you go on a spree) and only write to you a couple of days AFTER they have lowered it, it's easy to see that you may have used the card between them lowering the limit and you becoming aware of it.
I would certainly write to them insisting on a full refund of any fees charged because of this (plus any interest payable on those fees). You may not want to do this but I would also print off an invoice for £12 for the letter I write to them (though I wouldn't expect to get it. Furthermore, I would tell them that if this "overlimit" situation shows up on my credit file, I would be complaining to <whatever body they have to belong to>.
I'm expecting another round of credit limit cuts soon as I have a number of cards that are close to the limit (the cheap LOB ones) and some that haven't been used in ages (zero balance). It is a cause for concern as I need to keep a bit of spare credit in case I get a big repair bill for my van. In a year or two I would hope to have something put by for such an eventuality but I can't get there yet.0
