The local Aldi only has 6-8 members of staff at anyone time. When I go into Aldi, I am usally served at the till by the assistant store manager. You don't get that in Asda!
thats because everyone mucks in, theres no 1 member of staff sat in an office well there may be an occaison when they do eg doing paper work like putting orders in for deliveries etc0 -

i left sainsburys as i was constantly sat on a till when i was meant to be on the bws aisle doing the routine jobs, so i went to aldi where id be on the till or putting stock out or tidying up, there isnt a moment where you are doing nothing, as the stores are small you cant get away with doing nothing,0 -
i have just heard theres a lidl opening near me, now one reason i considered leaving asda was because i am stuck on a till all day... boring! and i have a 50mile round trip every day. We do get good benefits at asda, ie. interest free payments with car/home etc insurance taken out through asda. we do get cheap £8 pm LHF health benefits, we get free eye test, 10% on everything even markdowns, we get double discount days and there is always plenty of overtime,.... sounds good now ive read others comments.
I dont mean to sound funny, but i have a degree in social sciences, i have lots of qualis and a very active mind, and i wonder if thats why im bored... maybe some kind of course mite aleviate it...

That can't be right surely?
To be self employed you have to choose your own hours etc.
Bozo
No that is not correct. Self employed can mean you choose your own hours but not always-depends entirely on who you are doing work for.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I went for an interview with Aldi (enticed by a decent amount for supermarket work!). When i was shown around the store and warehouse the interviewer shouted to a guy to stop what he was doing and come and speak.
The guy was sweating, out of breath and was introduced as the warehouse manager.
I thought, if the manager was in this state, then what would i, a new guy starting at the bottom end up like?
I politely told them to i work to live, not live to work and left.
You'd rather work where the manager was sitting on his or her backside watching other people doing the work that earns their higher salary? Strange.
Your attitude suggests more you want an opportunity to skive rather than anything to do with a work-life balance. If I'm working a seven hour shift I want to work for seven hours. And I don't want shirkers like you standing around sneering at those doing the work.0 -

i don't expect to go to work and come home every night dripping in sweat. How long can you keep that up for? How long before you're off sick? How long before you're looking for work elsewhere as you're a. too old or b. too knackered?!
Like i said, some people live to work i work to live!0 -

The manager gets paid for what he knows, not for doing the grunt work.

My sister works for Aldi and has been there 7 years. What you find is they only give you a 20 hour contract and you are expected to work a rota as and when required. My sister has never worked less than 40 hours a week and last week worked 60 due to staff leaving.
She quite often does 12 hour days and its hard graft. Saying that the pay is a lot better than most supermarkets and Im sure she gets a share of profits if the figures are good.Matched betting proceeds so far: £505.000 -
I work for Aldi and yes you do have to work hard for your money but why shouldn't you! Like welnik said you get a 20hr contract its very rare that you'll actually work that little.
I would rather work 20 hrs and get paid a full wage than work for 40 hrs somewhere else and earn the same, at least I get some sort of a life then.Mummy to Oliver - 28/10/09
