Organising savings and using computer

Hi Guys

I am not sure if this is the right place for this post so please excuse me if it's incorrect. I am in the lucky position of being in quite a well paid job and as I have no particular financial ties (I have a mortgage but no other debts or children/anyone to support) I have managed to save quite a lot of my income over the last few years. I have tended to open a new account each time I get a raise or come into come extra money so I now have quite a number of different accounts. Each of the accounts has a different "label" in my head (holidays, wedding, rainy day etc...) and I like having them separate rather than having the money all in one place as is sort of feels like I know how much I have to spend on different things (not sure if that makes sense to anyone else but it does to me).

Most of my accounts have reasonably competitive rates of interest (I don't really have time to keep too close an eye on interest rates and keep transferring money around but I do try and review things now and then) and I also use my full cash and stocks and shares ISA allowance every year.

My problem is that I really have too many accounts to keep track of and I wondered whether anyone else has any advice for dealing with this (are there any accounts that operate as one but allow you to put the money into separate pots on their internet banking sites so that it seems like they are different accounts?). I would also quite like to get some financial management software for my pc so that I can keep better track of where my money is and what I am spending. Does anyone have any recommendations of good software as I have never used any before?

Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas to you all :xmassign:

Are they normal savings accounts that can be accessed online? If so then it might be worth getting an egg/egg money card so that you can gain access to the egg money manager.

This tool will poll all the accounts and give you an instant overview of the total amount.

ING Direct pay a reasonable rate of interest and allow you to have as many sub accounts as you like inside one main account. It may suit you just fine You don't need a any software. On https://www.trustnet.com, you can use the portfolio to keep track of things and credit cards etc can appear as negative balances. You can also use things like Quicken and Microsoft Money, but believe me you will spend an awful lot of time on them. Better to use the receipt pot idea. Keep a few of receipt pots in the kitchen (everywhere gives receipts these days), ie, supermarket, clothes, coffee's, car etc, and put all the receipts in them. After three months, dig them out and have an add up. Far quicker and easier.

This is not advice - hopefully it's common sense..

No advise (sorry), but as problems go, this is a very pleasant one to have :)
