Running_Horse wrote: »In fairness the OP did not ask if it was a good idea, but was it moral? In answer to that question, I think it is immoral young working couples cannot afford a home due to the greed of property owning speculators. If one of those speculators makes a loss, tough. In trying to persuade the OP not to make that loss, the replies have been remarkably generous and helpful.
Families all over the world are starving, yet speculators buy and sell grain. There is an energy crisis, yet speculators buy and sell oil. There is a financial crisis, yet banks buy and sell money. We lend money to third world countires and exploit them with ruthless interest rates. So prey tell me why, in a capitalist society, that brutally exploits the weaknesses of others, you feel it is so immoral for an induvidual to follow the path we are taught?0 -

just because everyone is doing it, doesn't mean it is right...
and it's 'pray' not 'prey'... 'prey' is what those capitalist speculators do in brutal exploitation of the weaknesses of others0 -

......Thank you for pointing out my error.
My point is. We live in a society that not only condones but encourages this behaviour. If you or any of the others who disagree with this want to change it, join the Comunist Party. ;-)0 -
Ghandi said 'be the change you want to see in the world.' It's more useful to me to live by that maxim than joining the Communist party!
Society condones and encourages lots of 'bad' behaviour, such as:
Getting into debt just to keep up with the neighbours, living off benefits because you can't be bothered to work, taking out mortgages that you can't afford because they are offered to you on a plate etc etc. But I believe in karma and what goes around comes around. And so base the choices I make and actions I take on that.0 -

I too believe in Karma. Buying a commodity be it bricks and mortar or rice is neither immoral or criminal.0 -

FOOL. You don't have to be immoral to make a profit. You and your neighbour can do what the hell you like. With regard to the question however. Making a profit has never been ilegal and it's not immoral.
I never at any time suggested that hard working families should not have the opportunity to buy a home.
You are an arze my friend ;-)0 -

True. But regardless of the actual question the tone of some of the replies has been rude to say the least.
It seems to me that (some) people have such strong views and opinions here, that (sometimes) they forget how to get these across without being insulting.
Look at the first word in posts 47 and 48 as an example.
Seriously though, I often need advice. I'm the type of person who has notions that pop into my head from time to time and I'm grateful for the chance to mull them over with people more knowlegeable than me who could point out things I hadn't thought about. I'd think twice about asking for advice here though as people dont just answer the question do they? They answer it (with sarcasm sometimes) and then get personal by inferring you're a fool for even considering it or at worst, deluded or a liar.
That said, I dont want to keep this going or cause an argument about this. I do think there is a lot of wisdom on this board. I was just surprised by the way the thread went and just wanted to offer a view from someone on the other side of the fence so to speak.
I'll keep it zipped now.Herman - MP for all!0
