Cost of a domain name?

Just over a year ago I wanted to set up a domain name to use for e-mail forwarding.
For an illustration, let's assume I wanted to use the name "bloggs". I found that the name "bloggs.co.uk" had already been registered, so I registered "bloggs.org.uk". On looking around for something else tonight, I saw that "bloggs.co.uk" is now for sale, as it's now been registered by a company which looks like it buys and sells domain names.
On the premise that the site was only used for e-mail forwarding by its previous owner, and this is all I will probably want to do with it, can anyone give me a rough idea of what they think it might be worth?

its a very diffulcult question to answer. For example, one word sub 5 letter TLD can sell for thousands, or equally a couple of pounds. It is all on what the domain is, what its context is and what if any relation has to society.
So for example, if you owned email.com you would be in for a mint, but if you owned email.org.uk then you would get a fraction of the money.
If you already own the domain, then just post it here and we can take it from there.0 -
Thanks thebyp!
I want to buy the .co.uk domain, because its easier for others to remember if I use it for email forwarding. I don't want to post the name on here in case the owner does a search and comes upon this thread, but its a meaningless compound name (a bit like "bluechimp") as I couldn't think of something for a one man company that doesn't sell to the general public. I seem to remember that the domain was previously owned by a band I'd never heard of before.
I realise that the question is perhaps 'how long is a piece of string?' but I may be willing to pay £20 for the name. £100 I probably wouldn't bother, but I wanted to get ideas before approaching the owner.
p.s - I just re-read my post, and I see taht I didn't make it clear that I was thinking of buying the .co.uk. Something to do with the lateness of the hour, methinks.I can spell - but I can't type0 -

Be very wary of the resellers of domain names, many of them only sell you access to the domain name and you do not actually own it it remains registered to them and cannot be transfered, they are in a position with this situation to hike up the charges if they choose to every time you renew it through them as it will be more valuable to you the longer time goes on.
I have used easily.co.uk for my domains for a long time now and they have never put their prices up on renewal and the names are registered to me if a domain name look up is carried out. (.co.uk is 9.99 for two years and has been for around 8 years now)Signature No Longer acceptable -

Just as a matter of point, nobody owns a domain, you merely rent it. You are quite right though, never tie your domain to anybody, always use a registrar that records you as the registrant.
123reg are the cheapest about at the moment for the .uk ccTLD.0 -
