What is the best thing to write?

I always have trouble with wording things and want to know what to put in my payment instructions to cover myself against bad people! I don't really wanna give refunds but will if I know it is 100% Genuine and is the posties fault or mine, but I don't want people trying it on! I don't know how many times I state " I only accept GBP £ Sterling, Thank you" only to find, a "$ check" "$ money order" or even $$$$ in hard cash through the post! I state this in size 18 font 2 times in my auctions! what advice would people give that I (or other people) can put ?? ???

:)

I don't put anything about refunds as I think people stop reading when there's too much on a page. I also don't have a formal refund policy and certainly don't keep enough stock to get people changing their minds about colours or sizes or something.

If I'm asked for a refund I decide on an ad hoc basis, sometimes I will swap an item if I can but this isn't always possible as I sell very little and don't keep masses amount of stock. If someone claims the item is broken or faulty I will decide what to do after looking at their feedback, lots of positives might make me think there was a problem and refund, a new buyer or someone with some negs and I will be less generous. I've really not come across this a lot though, I think only once a person asked for a refund because they changed their mind. I told them that I would offer a refund of the sale price if they sent the item back and once they realised that I wasn't going to roll over and let them keep their item and send them a refund as well they decided to keep it after all.

I thought long and hard about this.

You have to put your buyers hat on here. If as a buyer I see reams of DO's and DON'Ts I tend to give it a body swerve.

So as a seller you want to attract as many buyers as possible. Remember it only takes two competing buyers to drive your price up. Itherefore decided to be fairly relaxed about it. Mind you my sales are not big.

    I just put:

If you require a refund please get in touch within 7 days of posting. Generally only if not authentic or not working and returned in original condition.

If I have problems in the future I might have to reasses this.

You seem to have problems with overseas buyers. What sort of a % of sales? If its small then grin and bear it.

You could always restrict to UK buyers. Or else make it PayPal in £ only or charge them what it costs to process their $.

But remember you are wanting to attract buyers not scare them off.

    I also put....

I describe my items as acurately as possible, I therefore do not refund because of a difference of opinion.

Afraid that would be enough to go looking elswhere.

I'd rather lose a 'customer' than leave myself open to a buyer who complains because the shade of something isn't as he/she expected (for example)

I'm just covering myself from those who love to complain about anything ;)...and there are plenty of them out there!!
