Advice Please Air Purifier

My husband has recently had radiotherapy for cancer of the larynx and has been bothered with an irritable cough for the last few weeks. We have two dogs and I was thinking that maybe an air purifier would help. As I know nothing about them I was looking for advice as to what to buy. Can anybody help?
