Never pay for DMP when you can get it free from payplan or CCCS.

However there is no reason why you cant sort this out yourself and get yourself back on your feet. Getting rid of the car and all associated expenses and then trimming your budget should get you back on track fairly quickly. It wont be comfortable but it is possible (and there are plenty of people on here who are doing it the hard way).

    Whatever you choose, good luck

  • Not nosy at all, Hayley, that's why I'm here, to get sorted! lol! Well it said "medical - Dental etc" and I'm on DenPlan which costs me £20 per month.

Thanks for the advice on the DMP thing, I think I'm going to check out CCCS rather than paying for it. :A

    No Secured Debt

    Unsecured Debts
    Description....................Debt......Monthly...APR
    Provident Loan.................210.......15........0
    Safeloans .....................240.......240.......0
    Rent Arrears...................300.......100.......0
    RBS Personal Loan .............2050......58........0
    Council Tax Arrears............300.......100.......0
    Total unsecured debts..........3100......513.......-

Also just looking at your debt, you need to get the APR's for these then you can make sure you're paying them off in the best way, to reduce interest because I can imagine it's quite high on the Provdent Loan and the Safeloan. If you could save £150 or more like I suggested, you could have that Provident one paid off in no time.

Why not have a look at the Up Your Income board to see if there's any way you can earn some extra money. I'm an Avon Rep and although I don't earn that much because I always spend my commission in the brochure :o I do technically earn £100 every 3 weeks. If you wanted more info just let me know :D (p.s. not advertising or offering to swap personal info or anything like that because she's in scotland and i'm in Manchester, I don't travel that far :p)

Do you really need the denplan? Could you cancel it for the time being?

Yeah definitely CCCS are really nice. I spoke to them about a DMP earlier in the week and i've also spoken to Payplan today and they're really nice too. I was quite scared at first and a bit embarrassed but they put you at ease so yeah go for it. :)

    Hi SkintNalsy,

Im not an expert by any means but from what i've read on this website you shouldn't pay for a DMP when you can get it for free! One mentioned a lot on here is CCCS all the info is on the link above.

Please don't pay for anything you don't have to, just because your paying for it doesn't mean its better

    Good Luck

  • Yes, thanks Dex and Hayley. I'll check out CCCS. I'm moving back in with my mum in Jan too to see if I can save some money for a flat in a better area and get myself back on my feet. Going to be a nightmare being back at home but I'll save a fortune! Because of this, I'm thinking I might put a DMP on hold. What do you think?

Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks all for the advice. I'll definately reduce my digital payments and hairdressers. In regards to the water bills, no, I live in Scotland and we don't pay water rates. Right, am defo going to cut back on the entertainment side of things too.

Car insurance was the cheapest I could get, being 24 and having had to claim in March.

Council tax and rent - I'm paying back arrears (great) lol!

My groceries are for me alone and I am on a contract for my moby.

I am really bad for leaving things plugged in and switched on at the wall and leaving my TV on standby so that will change.

I spoke to someone yesterday from moneyworries who said that they could set up a DMP for me for £181pm and they'd sort out the rest. Not sure whether I should do that or go for someone who'll do it for free.

Thanks again tho everyone and I'll keep you posted!

Looking at your SOA there is absolutely no reason to do a DMP... with a little organisation and self discipline you can pay back your debts fully without much financial pain.

A DMP will trash your credit records for 6 years (which of course may be some benefit here) but is generally a real hassle.

I agree with Clapton, a DMP might be too drastic in your situation. I'd suggest setting up a spreadsheet and list all your incomings/outgoings. Make sure everything is set up on DD, this not only makes sure everything is paid on time but you can also save a bit of money. If you are going to miss payments on anything, make sure your rent and council tax are paid as these keep a roof over your head.

I think moving back in with your mum is a fab idea though, just think of all that money you'll be saving! You could have these debts paid off in no time and save up for a flat.

Throw any extra money at your debts, i'd get that Provident one paid off first because it's the smallest but the interest is probably really high.

If you are moving back home, then put a DMP on hold for now.
As soon as you are 'home' re-do your SOA, by then probably including any outstanding amounts on gas and electric.

In preparation for moving, try and live as frugally as possible, especially on the food and toiletries side of things. Use up what you have in, so there is less to move.
Also, have you any things you could sell on Ebay?
