New Old Car

Hello,

I need to upgrade my car on account of my dog now being too large to get into my beloved little fiesta without my putting the seats down . Any ideas on the best places to look and the best value for money makes and models? Needs to be an estate I think to actually get him in comfortably ...

Thanks to anyone with any recomendations
Sarah

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi

I am looking for a new, old car too and I found this site quite good.

    http://search.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars/search/N-0/search_form.action

Just insert your postcode and the number of miles you are willing to travel etc and it will bring up your local garages and private sellers too.

    :)

Skoda Felicia estate could be a good option. 1.3 is powerful enough, I would go for the MPI though. Insurance should be cheaper also. But also available in 1.6 vw-engine and 1.9 diesel vw engine. Should be able to get some sort of bar thingies for the gap between the rear seats and roof. One should set you back under £1000. Known problems, rusty shock absorber cups which collapse (new shocks), rusty rear tailgates and arches, leaky front windscreen (sound proofing under dash will be wet).
  • my airedale would fir int the boot of an ax with no problems, dogs dont need as much space as people think

i know people who buy a massive car for their dog then when i ask them if the dogs bed would fit in the back of their old cars boot they just look stupid

Thanks for this thread, I'm also looking for a new / old car but I don't have the funds :(

Does anyone know if dealers / traders do a straight swap regarding value? for example if my car was worth £2000, would a dealer do a straight swap for a car of the same value, I'm to embarrassed to ask any /trader dealer :o:confused:
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional
  • Hi

Thanks for the replies so far. Sorry for posting in the wrong place and thanks for moving it.

My dog is a greyhound, which you wouldn't think is so big but I think they must have fed him growmore as a pup because when he stands, he's 28 inches to the shoulder. Also, I do want another dog to keep him company so it makes sense to make sure I have the room.

I was looking at a second hand Ford Focus estate ...

I don't know if traders would do a straight swap but most would be willing to part exchange. I guess you could negotiate what percentage.

No; if you took a car in worth £2k then you would probably walk out with a car worth around £1.5k or less.

They need to make some money on the deal and to be frank in this climate they wouldn't really be wanting to exchange their crap for your crap (no offence intended)
  • i dont think a trader would do a straight swap for two cars of the same value, what would be in it for him

He needs to make some money and doesnt need moaning customers coming back saying they have not checked the oil for a month and its leaked out and now the engine is broken (like the thread on here a few weeks back)
