Card meter caper!

I am with powergen electric company with card now stick meter.this was already installled in our flat before we moved in 7 years ago. i rang them up to change to direct debit but they said it would cost me £50 to change from meter to direct debit to install new meter any suggestions to stop this charge as it was not our choice to have this type of meter in the first place.
Many thanks

Threaten to leave they might do it then, if not do leave and get another supplier to do it.

It was your choice to move in to a flat with a prepayment meter installed. I presume, by your objection to the fee, that you oppose cheaper tariffs for credit meters and would be upset by any such discounts?

I am in the same boat, I bought a house with pre-payment meters installed. I didn't choose to move into a house with the meters already in but neither was I going to discount buying a perfect house just because it had these meters in!

I also don't agree with having to pay £50 to get them changed, they were installed because of the previous owners bad credit, not mine - I had a credit account at my old house which was run perfectly. I already pay more for my gas and electric than people with credit meters so why should I also have to pay £50 to get them switched over?

I am in the same situation as I was housed in a council house which has these meters installed. I want to change as they are very expensive and have been told that I can't change until I have been with my current supplier for at least a year, and then I will have to pay £50 to change! This seems ridiculous as I haven't been in debt or anything???
