in Credit cards
Just cancelled the Bank of Scotland platinum mastercard I've held for 8 years or so.
My statement last month didn't have an envelope in it for me to send in payment. I thought that odd, but didn't worry about it - there was less than fifty pounds on the card, and I have a direct debit to cover the minimum payment.
This month, same again. So I rang them up, and asked for their address so that I can post in payment in full. I mentioned the lack of an envelope, and they said this was intentional.
It seems they're no longer sending out payment envelopes to people that pay by direct debit. Even if you only pay minimum fee by direct debit.
I find this very insidious. They're making it considerably more complicated to pay off the outstanding balance, and personally I think it's probably to 'encourage' people to miss payments.
So I've cancelled. Seeking out new card now..

Sorry to say but how lack of envelope make you to miss payment nowadays when less and less people uses cheques and modern ways of payments are so convenient?
I will be very grateful if credit card companies stop to send me envelopes and start to save environment (Ok, I almost never use cheques).0 -
It would be great customer service if you could choose whether you want to receive envelopes, marketing bumpf, and paper statements.
I personally would say no to all of these because I much prefer to do all my finances online.0 -
I pay all mine online anyway and throw away all of the other stuff that comes in the envelope so a lack of an envelope wouldnt bother me.
Have you considered paying them via online banking instead?0 -
i think it's a safe bet that companies wont send envelopes out as most people that pay their minimium balance by DD wont pay anymore than that.
Smart business sense in my opinion.:santa2:0 -
