Blackberry curve crashing / rebooting

Evening

My (previously) trusty Curve seems to have developed a fault.

Symptoms - sporadically when I click any menu item, the phone crashes, and either shuts down, does a quick reboot, or a full reboot. Sometimes it won't power back on and needs a battery pull - this in itself doesn't always work (the LED just flashes red).
This is happening 20 or so times a day. It goes through phases of being OK (maybe an hour or two) then goes again.
It doesn't seem to be everything that's triggering it - if I just move around the home screen it's OK, it's only when I go to do things it goes belly up - e.g. attempt to read a message, reply to a message, lock the handset, etc.

I did manage to drop the phone two weeks ago but only had the problems in the last week.

Has anyone got any ideas on things that might help?

Thanks in advance :)
