Can i get a refund for a laptop bought on Finance?

Hi,

I wasnt sure if this was the right board to post this on. I have just bought a laptop on Finance from Currys and the thing is useless, very slow and not at all what i was expecting.

What can i do about getting a refund? I bought this about 4 days ago and have only paid £60 so far (a deposit) nothing has been taken from my account yet for the finance. Do i still have the same rights as if i bought it with cash and will i get a full refund, or will i lose my £60 deposit. I have looked on the Currys website but it doesnt seem to cover this query.

Thanks,
Jennie. :o

Is the product actually faulty or just does not do what you thought it would ? Was it mis-sold ? It will make a big difference.

If faulty, Curry's should by law refund (cancel your finance)/exchange your laptop if that's what you want.

If not, and you have made a mistake in your expectations then they are under no obligation to do anything, but will possibly as a gesture of goodwill exchange it for another or even if you're very lucky cancel your finance, BUT as the finance will be with a 3rd party company they may hold you to it.

Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware !

EDIT : If purchased online you will be covered under the distance selling regulations and will be entitled to cancel (within 7 days) without prejudice.
  • Thanks for the response, i think it is faulty yes, its very slow and the hardware installed doesnt seem to work properly, the buttons alongside the keyboard dont do anything, im worn out with the whole thing and just want rid of it.

But im really worried that they wont refund. Im trying to find something quoting a law so i can take it with me in case they get difficult.......

You're unduly worrying. If it's faulty, take it back and ask them to refund and cancel your agreement.

You are covered under the Sales Of Goods Act and the Consumer Credit Act.

If you google both you'll find all the relevant bits you need.

best thing is to go into the shop and ask first of all, if they won't do anything, get advice from consumer direct, they're very helpful!

read thru the following link: http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/know-your-rights/computers/
