home insurance question for mid-terraced house

Dear all,
I have been advised recently that my buildings insurance cover should not only be adequate to cover my house but all the others in the terrace, in case they are damaged by something originating at my home.
Is this normal? Thanks.

Hi there
Someone is having a joke at your expense. You have to insure your home for its rebuilding costs and as part of that, you get at least £1,000,000 of liability cover included as part of the package. The liability cover will insure you against any amounts you are legally liable to pay for damage your home causes to other people or their property. They will also defend you against someone claiming from you if it was not your fault.
Hope this helps. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I was told the exact same thing this morning by a Lloyds TSB Personal Banker. They said I should make sure my policy has an unlimited contents allowance in order to cover any damage caused to another property in the row as a result of my house burning down or blowing up, etc.
Seemed a bit absurd.0 -
Wow! my mum's is a terrace of 22 - about £350k each!
But a fire could easily spread through the roofs:rolleyes:0 -
And if the fire gets really going it could burn a whole city (think fire of London) !!0

Sounds like an ill informed sales person trying to flog an unlimited contents policy and using this as an incorrect justification.
If it had been me, I'd have laughed in their face and then taken my business elsewhere but I appreciate some people may be swayed by this nonsense.0
