Immersion Heater no longer heating water

Hi, I have recently moved house and the immersion heater looks quite elderly, for the past couple of weeks it has been producing very hot water then over night it just stopped working. I have checked the fuse in the fuse box and it hasn't tripped.
Are the most likley causes the element / thermostat?

Could be either, hard to say, without using a meter to check them out. The replacement of either, is not a particularly difficult job for someone who knows what they are doing.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

yes the element most likely, but as you say its been heating the water too hot lately, then maybe its the stat.

an element going will often cause a circuit breaker to trip.as said above the very hot water the night before points to it being the thermostat.
easy and cheap to change if it is just the stat.
