Ebay Question... Not sure where I stand with this

I have just sold something on Ebay, my listing states in the postage and packaging section.. 'Despatches to - United Kingdom' and then the Royal Mail costs.
But the buyer is in Germany and I have only notice when I have come to write the address on the parcel!
I have emailed the person to explain that I do not usually offer worldwide postage and that I did not offer this as an option on the listing, however I asked them to pay a little extra towards it (Still waiting to hear back from them)
It's only a small item 99p and 1.50 postage, but I know thats how much it will be to send it the UK so I dont have any idea how much extra it will be to post.. I have to told the person 50p.
If the person refuses to pay the extra where do I stand with Ebay as I refuse lose my tiny little bit of profit I made just because someone didn't read my listing properly or contact me to ask me if I would consider posting to them in another country.
Thanks in advance!

Oh dear, sound like a lot of hassle for not much reward, but I'll try and help. You need to find out the exact postage costs to Germany

This link's really easy, so stick it on your favourites for next time and don't try and guess postage, it's really a minefield! Then add your packaging costs and tell your buyer this is what it is, no haggling, they should have contacted you if they wanted exact postage before bidding!
As far as potential non-payment's concerned, make sure you file a NPB if they still haven't paid after 8 days. That way you'll get your fees back. Hopefully you'll make more money when you relist too!

you need to refund them the original payment and then send them a new invoice for the correct amount as if they pay you 50p thruogh paypal you will pay 2 lots of paypal fees also it will be easier for them to make the payment that way0

Thank you very much for that link thats great!
The person has already sent the funds by paypal as normal .... so now I just have to wait until the person replies and says they will pay the extra.
I suppose what I mean is, if they won't will I have to send it still or can I refuse to send as I didn't offer that option, so surely the sale is not legit? Does that make any sense? lol

As above, you need to refund, then re-invoice in order to avoid paying double Paypal fees. That'd wipe out any small profit you may have made!carlislelad wrote: »you need to refund them the original payment and then send them a new invoice for the correct amount as if they pay you 50p thruogh paypal you will pay 2 lots of paypal fees also it will be easier for them to make the payment that way
I think I do know what you mean...! I think too that if they refuse to pay the new price then you don't have to send it and can do the NPB because you didn't, as you say, offer the overseas option. I think there's an option that says "Buyer comes from a country I don't ship to," but I can't remember what section it's in, sorry!Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
Have you blocked bidders from abroad in sellers preferences? Might be worth doing if not.No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
Thanks I will have a look into that option and see if I can find anything about it!
Thanks for all of your advice! I will message the buyer to advise them that they need to re-pay the way as advised above.
It's so much hassle though lol But I am stubborn enough not to back down

I didn't realise you could do that, but thanks I have just had a look and done it!
To be honest I just sell things, and have been doing on and off for the last few years and have never really had any problems, and have got 100% feedback so I have been lucky I guess as looking through the preference options it seems that I can be protected in future from any bad situations, thanks!

Me too - you can still post abroad obviously but they need to check with you first how much it will be.0
