Type of plasterboard

I am looking at converting my integral garage into a room - i am looking at doing some work myself to save a bit of £.

I have heard there is a type of plasterboard which you dont need to skim onto, you can literally paper over it when it's installed. Is this true? if so how much and where can you get it from?

not heard of this.... plasterboard can actually be decorated on either side, one side is preferable for plastering/artexing, the other side for lining paper

i think there is a plasterboard that has straight edges and not beveled so it slots together......instead of having it skimmed...

You can get square edge or tapered edge boards. Tapered edge boards have the same usage as square edge but as the name suggests they have a tapered edge so you can tape & fill the joint rather than skimming the whole board. Maybe this is what you are thinking of?
You can get beveled edge boards but they are normally more expensive.
