London to Reading
Hi
I need to be in Reading tomorrow (Thursday) about 1.45pm. I will return about 5.45pm to London.
I have a Young Person's railcard. Will this be valid?
What is the cheapest ticket to purchase? What if I stay later and return around 10pm? How much will the ticket cost?
I may also visit Coulsdon station before Reading. Can I do this on the same ticket? Coulsdon station is in zone 6 so perhaps I could purchase a travelcard and then a ticket covering zone 6 - Reading return?
Do trains still depart from Paddington?
Thanks

Just get a Off Peak Day Return from London Paddington to Reading and use your YP railcard it brings the fare down to £9.40 from £14.20
The Off Peak Day return is valid from 09:21 from Paddington and from Reading up to 18:15
Unsure about visit to Coulsdon perhaps somebody else will help you on thisWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Bear in mind that you won't be able to use your Railcard until after 10am, as a minimum fare applies before (I think it's £16 minimum for a return fare).0

I asked for a London <> Maidenhead return ticket a couple of weeks ago (Maidenhead is about 15mins from Reading on the same line) and they gave me a travelcard anyway. Without a yp railcard that was £13.40. I checked on one of the machines and the return ticket was the same price as a travelcard so you may well get a travelcard which would cover Coulsdon anyway. Yes, this line goes into Paddington, have a play on http://www.traveline.org.uk to find out more about routing.0

There are also slower trains from Waterloo to Reading which may be marginally (ie a few pence) cheaper and have fewer peak restrictions. Possibly also easier access (Clapham Junction) from Coulsdon0

Anyone know what it costs from Clapham Junction to Coulsdon off peak? Peak? And return? And with a young persons card?
I would look but the site keeps crashing my browser
Apparently a travelcrd can only be combined with a Reading ticket when purchased in Reading and heading in the direction of London as opposed to the other way around. Hmm..0 -
