Unsoliicited Loan Offers...is this allowed?

Through my door this morning, a little card from Provident Personal Credit that had been handposted. On the blank bit where the agent writes their contact details, handwritten:-

"Need a loan? Call Kendra,"

followed by her mobile number. Is this allowed? Nobody in our household has had any contact with Provident and it seems, from speaking to a neighbour, they have just posted them through most of the doors on the street.

Is this allowed? It seems completely irresponsible.

Why should it not be allowed?

Just because someone tries to sell you double glazing does not mean you have to buy it. Same with a loan. Just bin the stuff from Provident.
  • I ask because I believe there were reforms to the credit act proposed in 2005 in regards to these issues to prevent this type of irresponsible loan offers and wondered if anyone knew anything more on it.

Of course it's allowed. I get these things through my door and through the post every week. It's called advertising.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

    Which leaflet was it?

One with a milk bottle or a cereal/washing powder box?

    Or something else?

Can you scan and post an image with the phone number blanked out?

I work for Provident so can tell you if it is a legal leaflet. There are only a few now as advertising regulations are much stricter now. It must have the lenderscompared.org website on it.

Proud to be dealing with my debts.

I don't understand - what is this, a government site? Does it have to go on all loan advertising?

    Have never seen it....
  • Hi there... I've no scanner unfortunately. But it doesn't have that website on.

It's a little blue and red card (maybe twice the size of a standard business card). The printing is "I called today but you were out." Then a box where 'Kendra' had written "Need a loan. Call Kendra" followed by her mobile number. Then there is just the provident logo. The small print at the bottom is the provident mailing address.

On the reverse size, red and blue again and just says "Provident Personal Credit. www.providentpersonalcredit.com"

No other websites listed at all.

All home collected credit companies over a certain size must supply details of all their loan products to the lenderscompared website. You search by postcode and it will tell you all the companies and rates available in your area.

They are only calling cards to leave when a customer is out. By writing "Need a loan?" on it, I would say it could be construed as advertising and is therefore illegal. I wouldn't be happy if it was one of my agents doing it.

Give Customer Services a call. It's a free phone and you shouldn't need to give more than a postcode (if you don't wish to) to identify the local office, then they can get in touch with local management to rectify the agents approach.

Like I said there are leaflets provided which have been drafted to be legal within all the recently implemented legislation.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

What part of the country are you from.
It's just that I have a loan with Provident and the collectors name is Kendra.
it's a rather unusual name i don't think there will be too many about
