Crown Matt Emulsion OK for sealing plaster? Its £10 for 10litres in B&Q

Options
I was just in B&Q and they had the 10 litre tubs of white paint (silk and matt) Crown for £10 and Dulux for £14 (or close to £14).

I thought this was a good price as I've been paying £18.98 for the dulux one.

Is Crown OK? As for a tenner, I thought it's a bargain for sealing my walls. Needed to buy Matt paint for this purpose as I only have silk at home.

That's what I got for the same job so I hope it's ok! Crown is a reputable brand so I'm sure it'll be fine - it's only for sealing anyway.

  • Silk cannot be used for sealing at all!! Watch it peel off - you need a dense paint that is not too chemically - Dulux Trade supermatt is what those in the trade tend to use which can be bought at B&Q etc. Alternatively Wickes and B +Q sell a new plaster paint that will still need watering down.

2 mist coats is recommended and 2 top coats
  • It'll be fine. Just water it down as recommended on the can.

As said before, to "seal" plaster the paint has to be a water based emulsion. Nothing else!
  • used crown matt emmulsion on many ceilings and walls very good unlike bq own brand which needs twice as many coats .the matt is also easier to patch up ceilings .if you use slik after bear in mind that when yo next paint you will need to sand the silk down to get a key for new paint
if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction
