    Please help. I have kids from school coming round to tea, and its the end of the week so the cupboard is a bit Mother Hubbard. My planned dessert of profiteroles from the freezer has backfired as there aren't enough.

    I wondered about ice cream as I have a machine, but I have no cream (or condensed milk, my other usual ice cream standby)

    I have

    tin custard
    tin evap
    milk
    cocoa
    tinned mangoes
    greek yogurt
    tinned mandarins

    any ideas? Shall I just disoolve cocoa in hot water, blend with custard and milk ( I ususally do this, but use condensed milk, not custard) , do you think that would work?

    Thanks

    Do you have no other ingredients? A cake and custard is nice :D Otherwise take a look at this older thread; I'll add this one to that later to keep ideas together.

    i do have loads of baking ingredients, but unfortunately I suffer from M.E , and today is a low energy day. I thought ice cream would be quick and easy, and I have a hectic afternoon ahead!

    I tried the cocoa , custard and milk idea, but didnt taste it until after it went in, and its no where near as sweet as condensed milk. have chucked in some sugar whilst its churning, so cross fingers.

    In a word - yes. All the ingredients you have there work for Ice Cream, the texture may differ a bit, but they all work.

    Thanks for all the help

    ice cream made, and not too bad, its not as good as the version with condensed milk, as its a bit more, well, custardy, but still nice. A quick summary for the thread

    Chocolate custard ice cream
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    tin custard
    approx 150 mls milk
    5 tbls sugar
    5 tbls cocoa powder (I use Green and blacks, its one of the few things, I prefer not to compromise on)
    hot water
    Mix the cocoa and the water to a paste, put in fridge, also put tin custard in fridge. when cold, add milk & sugar to cocoa, stir in custard till smooth. Taste, add more sugar if needed (it should be a bit sweeter than you like, because it loses sweetness on freezing) churn in ice-cream machine.
    To make a darker richer version, substitute the custard for a tin of condensed milk, and leave out the added sugar.
