I changed my gas and electricity provider around 6 weeks ago from npower to british gas click energy 5. Now when I go to look, Click energy 5 doesn't seem to exist or at least I can't find it. There is now a click energy 6 and this is now the cheapest for me. Does this mean that I should be looking to change again or will I have been automatically moved to the new Click Energy 6. Hope that all makes sense :o

  • You certainly shouldn't get automatically upgraded but if you phone them up they might switch you over as you joined fairly recently. But before you do that check very carefully that the Click 6 prices are actually better than the tariff you're on because most of the newer tariffs have gone up not down. So Click6 may be the best currently available but still be worse than some of their older tariffs that people are still on.

That's certainly the case for my old E-ON online tariff, I'm on V5 and they're now up to about V11, which is all you can currently sign up for. But all the ones after V5 have actually been slightly worse than it (lower discounts etc) so I'm staying with that one until I find a genuinely better tariff.

British gas will not automatically change you over to click energy 6.

The exact same thing happened to my parents (re: switching to click 5 and click 6 getting released).

They did it on the phone it took about 2 minutes.

As slewin said though it is well worth checking to see if you are better off when doing this (chances are you will be but it is not guaranteed).

I'd best try to figure out which one is cheaper and give them a phone if Click 6 is cheaper. Thanks for the advice :)

Although Click 5 isn't available anymore, the comparison sites have the data, so can tell you whether it is cheaper. It hasn't been in the past when they've moved from one version of Click to the next, but I believe it is now.

See this thread, from the top, as you may not want to switch to Click Energy 6 for the moment if you've not been notified of any price rises specific to Click Energy 5.
