Riding whilst on holiday

Hi everybody
I'm off on holiday in the next week or so, I'm going to visit friends in the Middle East, i'd quite like to go for a ride whilst I'm out there, I have friends over there with bikes (over here I ride a Yamaha Thundercat YZF 600), has anyone done this? Ridden whilst abroad, outside Europe, a different bike to the one you own?
I'm just wondering what the score would be regarding insurance etc.
