Applying for Virgin credit card query

Hi there, it's my first post so please be gentle with me.;)

Recently I applied to Virgin, because I have £1,000 debt on my Tesco credit card (Mastercard) which I wish to transfer to Virgin with the 0% for 16 months and use the Virgin card soley to pay off that debt.

I had a letter from Virgin this morning saying that so they can continue with my application they need to check a few details with me and gave me their free phone number to call.

My question is, what information should I have ready to hand to give them when I call, and what sort of details will they be checking with me? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. :o

  • Hiya,

Did you orginally apply online and say no to the Payment Protection? If so, they will just ask you how you will be able to make payments if you become unemployed. They may need to check previous addresses with you?

  • Many thanks for replying. :o I listed my occuppation as Homemaker on my application form...what should I say if they ask me? My credit has always been good, always paid on time, never missed any payments etc.

I moved house in January this year, but am now on the electorial roll at this address and at my previous address I lived there for 12 years - I gave them my previous address and told them how long I'd lived there.

I said on the application form I would like to transfer my debt from my Tesco credit card - do I tell them that again on the phone? Should I have my building society and Tesco credit card details ready to hand?

They may want to know the household income, if it wasn't asked for/provided on the application form.

I wouldn't worry yourself about the call though. Many people don't bother ringing and still get the card given!
  • I've just rung them and been told my application was unsuccessful because I am on Incapacity Benefit. Is this the sort of response I will get if I apply somewhere else?

Surely it won't be BECAUSE you're on incapacity benefit, it will probably be because your IB isn't ENOUGH for virgin to think the card is affordable for you.
