totally depends on what connection your laptop and TV has.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Most laptops have vga output only especially if its a cheapish one under £500
If you have a LCD tv then it probably has a VGA input so just use a vga to vga cable0 -
it may have an s video output (yellow)and seperate audio sockets )red / white) - you can get cables from somewhere like maplin which are designed to plug into these (may need an s-video to jack adapter though)Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

You cant convert DVI to VGA as DVI is digital and VGA is analogue:idea:0

Although just to confuse things, a lot of DVI outputs on videocards carry a VGA signal (most graphics cards with a pair of DVI outputs will have a small physical adaptor that allows a designated port to hook up to an analogue monitor).
Computers are so much fun when it comes to hooking them up to other devices.
As JakG says it depends entirely on the connections available on both devices - a lot of LCD TV's have a VGA connection, but some cheaper ones don't.
So it's a case of looking at both devices then working out the best connection they have in common.0 -
If the laptop does have dvi then use dvi to dvi or dvi to hdmi assuming you have a modern tv
My pc is connected to main tv via dvi to hdmi cable some tv do have vga only for pc's you have to check with the manual
If its only vga then no point having a adaptor just a vga-vga cable as you wont get any better picture0
