Inheritance Advice

Hi All,

Well it's a long story and I don't really know who will be able to advise me on this.

When I was 9 my great grandmother died leaving me half share of a house with my uncle and £16,000 in trust..however it was labelled that we could not have the inheritance until my nan died (her daughter) who resided in the property!

When I was 18 I had the will looked into by a solicitor because I ahd a few discrepancies, with the fact that my great nan had several properties all issued between the family..One bungalow was split between my 2 cousins again they apparently had to wait till my nan died to claim it however they sold it and got the money...this is why I went to my solicitor but got told yes the house was there but the money wasn't.

Anyway 11 years later my nan has died.. So how do I go about claiming this inheritance or do they just issue it to me...I don't know how it works.

All I know is that my other uncle became her power of attorney, dealing with all finances etc. I had no real contact with her for over 10 years, so don't know the state of her affairs.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would contact the solicitor/uncle to inform them of the death of your Nan (Sorry to hear) and just make them aware that of your stand in the situation (eg inheritance) and your residing address. I would do it all over letters tho, avoid verbal agreements with the solicitors, just been through a similar process myself and solicitors were useless, took 18 months to get everything...
