Mongoose Price Hike and Fixing

I just wanted to have a rant about about my experience over the last few days trying to buy a Mongoose BMX bike for my son for Xmas.
My son and me went in to a local bike shop on Sunday to try a few BMX bikes out for Xmas.
He chose a Mongoose Menace and I then gave him the spiel about putting it on his Xmas list.
I went back to the shop yesterday to buy it and it had gone up in price by £30 from £179.99 to £209.99. I asked the guys in the shop to sell it me for the Sunday price and they said they could not drop the price as they would lose their Mongoose dealership. Apparently the story they had been given was that the price of steel has gone up - though oddly they couldn't sell me one of the 3 they had in stock at the old price, even though I assume they bought them when steel was cheap!
I also got the exact same story from 2 other bike shops, plus lots of internet bike shops. It is so recent that many search engines and price comparison sites were showing the price still at £179.99 but when you follow the links to the sites they were all £209.99.
PRICE FIXING IS ALIVE AND WELL IN RIP OFF BRITAIN !!!!!!!!!

If they can't change the price of the bike, they can on other items they sell.
Haggle, ask for £30 worth of accessories for free or say you'll buy else where and walk away.0 -
All they would have to say unless you have it in writing such as a quotation then you don't have a leg to stand onI went back to the shop yesterday to buy it and it had gone up in price by £30 from £179.99 to £209.99. I asked the guys in the shop to sell it me for the Sunday price
Do you know the terms of their dealership? they might have the bikes on "sale or return"and they said they could not drop the price as they would lose their Mongoose dealership.
As I say they could have the goods on "Sale or return" and not actually have any capital tied up in stock, and they receive the prices from mongoose.Apparently the story they had been given was that the price of steel has gone up - though oddly they couldn't sell me one of the 3 they had in stock at the old price, even though I assume they bought them when steel was cheap!
A quick search on Google shopping You will see a huge variation in price, one (Advertised as £139.99 discount the first result they put a whopping £80 on their list price) comes back as £164.88 delivered so still cheaper than £209.99
Depends on terms of dealershipI also got the exact same story from 2 other bike shops, plus lots of internet bike shops. It is so recent that many search engines and price comparison sites were showing the price still at £179.99 but when you follow the links to the sites they were all £209.99.
On some products agreed.PRICE FIXING IS ALIVE AND WELL IN RIP OFF BRITAIN !!!!!!!!!:mad:0 -
I did ask and I did walk away in the end - they were even kind enough to suggest and give me the telephone numbers of other dealers in the area to ask them for a price. They seemed happy enough to let me walk away - as did the 2 other stores.0
