Hi - I just wanted to warn people about the digraceful tactics used by bigcitydigital.
I placed an order on the bigcitydigital.co.uk website last Friday for a Panasonic TZ5 in blue at £164.99. I had been worried about them as I'd read a few bad reviews elsewhere and was suspcious about their low price - I now wish I'd just avoided them completely rather than taking a chance.
Their website showed that they had the camera in stock. Despite their promise of fast delivery, I didn't hear anything from bigcitydigital until 3 days later when they sent me the following email:
http://www.bigcitydigital.co.uk/digital-cameras-1/panasonic-digital-cameras-23/panasonic-digital-camera-4647.htm
It says in stock and dispatched within 24 hours - don't believe it!
I would guess that they cancelled my order because I only ordered the camera without any accessories such as a memory card or case (I already have a card and case from my old camera so just wanted the camera) - it looks like this was too much to ask! I guess they are probably using the camera as a loss leader, in the hope that people order their much more expensive bundle offers, and then refuse to ship orders to customers who order just the camera. I have reported this to my local trading standards and advise everyone else to avoid bigcitydigital and their very dishonest tactics.
I'm hoping my refund will show up soon - it hasn't shown on my card yet - if it's not there tomorrow I will contact my credit card company and ask them to reverse the transaction.
I'm very angry with bigcitydigital :mad::mad: as I've now wasted almost a week on this and should have had the camera the day after I ordered.
Rant over!

Unfortunately we have now run out of stock of the camera you ordered. Your refund has been processed and will show against your card in 48 hours . Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused
Please try www.digitalfirst.co.uk as they currently have stock. Once again apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you
kind regards

When I went to their website, they were still showing that they have stock. I even rang bigcitydigital pretending to be a new customer and they told me that they do have stock of this item. I then told them that I had in fact already ordered and been emailed to say they didn't have stock. They then changed their mind and claimed to not have the camera in stock! At the time of writing, their website still shows that they have the camera in stock:Please try www.digitalfirst.co.uk as they currently have stock. I think hes more annoyed at the fact he ordered a camera but they wouldn't send it unless he paid for accessories for it as well - naughty naughty big city digital should have gone to jessops.3x Credit Cards Destroyed0

doesn't know for sure it would ahve been delivered with the accessories though, is just an assumption0

roycall42 was spot on - whilst having to get a refund was very irritating (it did come through a few days later) - I was more annoyed by the fact they wouldn't ship the order in the first place.
98jdougl - it was a guess that they would have sent the order if I'd ordered accessories, but the fact that their website showed stock for over a week after I received the email saying they had none - and the fact that they claimed to have stock when I rang them as a new customer suggests some foul play.
In the end I bought it from digital camera company who were £5 more expensive but it arrived a couple of days after I ordered - with no cancellation emails!0 -
Are steve_atko and Roycall42 the same person?
Both joined November 2008, have low post count, and both have an uncanny style of writing using hyphens (-) and small letters other than the 'I'...
And Roycall joined and made his first post just 30 minutes before steve_atko's second post, and agreed...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Hi pinkshoes - I find it a rather strange suggestion but no roycall42 is not the same person as me! I posted half an hour after his post because this site sends an email when someone replies to a thread you've written on. Not quite sure what the advantage of setting up a second poster would be to be honest.0

During the day i am a mild mannered reporter, at night i am 2 people trying to save joe public!! lol !! I like this website but after reading through a lot of it newbies are treated with so much scepticism, i'll try not to be a newbie for too long but obviously i dont have as much time on my hands as you pinkshoes !3x Credit Cards Destroyed0

I bought a bundled package from this firm, and had to send a card back because it was corrupt. After a month of them not returning emails, and the phone either being engaged or not answered, I finally got an email claiming they never received my return. It's now clear why they are so cheap, in every sense of the word! Judging by comments on other forums, this is typical of how they operate. Caveat emptor.0
