Provider websites should be your first port of call for information. If I ask you to consider an increase to my credit limit, how do you assess my request?
We will carry out appropriate checks and use a variety of information when reviewing your credit limit. This can include factors like how you've managed your account to date, when your last credit increase was and information from a Credit Reference Agency.0 -

I wonder if when they say information from credit reference agencys they will use the information they got in the first place and how well you run your account still confused.0

If you have had a limit change in the last 6 months or only opened the account less than 6 months dont ask, you will be automally denied.0

It depends what limit you ask for.
For instance, when I get a new card and phone up to activiate it, I always ask if they can increase the limit (I stooze, so the more the merrier). They always do, instantly, by between 5% and 20%.
So, there's clearly a bit of leeway built in already. But it you wanted to double your limit then they would think more carefully about it, which might reasonably include checking your up-to-date credit records.0 -

Yeah this is true, I found out that the other day. My card arrived with a lower limit than I needed,(£1250 initial, needed £1500 for a SBT) but when I asked for higher (£400 more) they denied it and said it needed to be active for 6 months or more before they could offer me a higher limit.
No credit checks were done outside of Egg though, so hope that helps a little.0 -
I reduced my credit limits on Morgan Stanley and MBNA cards from £5000 each to £2000 each in august.
Does that mean I shouldnt ask for a slight increase (total £1000 on one or the other) for another few months?0 -
I had an limit of £500 with egg, About a month ago I asked for a £500 increase online got accepted but I meant to ask for a £1000 increase so applied again online got turned down, so went through appeals again got turned down they said wait 6 months, Yesterday just thought I would applie got accepted for a £500 increase, I'm not even on the electrol row at my mum's havn't had time to do it yet, So they couldn't have used the Credit agencey cause I would have been turned down.Egg Loan £15000
