in Credit cards
Hiya all
Have just got my new card in the post and getting ready to switch all my spending onto this card
)
I have a question.... can I pay my mortgage / council tax / utility bill payments using my Amex card instead of by direct debit? How would I set this up? Would definitely be a massive plus for the cashback!!

Most likely not for all except the utility bills - depending on your provider you might be able to pay online with a credit card. For example if youve got an Orange phone you can pay your bills instore with Amex.0

Most mortgage lenders and councils don't accept credit card payments (probably because of the charges), so on the whole the answer is no.
There may be one or two exceptions as above.0 -
Be careful that the utilities don't try a charge a % fee for using a credit card, not sure about domestic but I was charged on a commercial electriccity bill by Briish Gas.Hit the Gym HARD!!!0

My experience is that where you can pay such bills by credit card there is either a credit card handling fee or, they only take visa and mastercard.
Best places for Amex are hotels, supermarkets, petrol stations, trains, and some restuarants. You can also use Amex to buy christmas savings stamps at Morrisons (with your shopping). These will get you Amex cashback and when you have bought enough, you get the Morrison's bonus as well so percentage return is quite good over a short period of time. Downside is you have to spend all the savings stamps in one go (AFAIK).0
