hi, just a question, i've just started a job ( a week ago) and ive been on jsa for 2 months and i started work on the day i was due to go and sign on. i told them i'd got work, and called up, but they werent interested and said i must go "in person" to the office, to sign off, which is pretty hard, as i'm at work. i started on october 24th and assumed that i would still get some payment that was owed to me for those two weeks. but nothing has come through. i keep ringing but i get told they cant even let anybody know as i have to go "in person". its hard for me to get to the job centre as i can do so at the end of the day with ten mins to spare, and i'm wondering a) will they even pay me what i'm owed in arrears (as i am working a month in hand and have had no money for nearly a month now!) and if so, how long will this take. if i send the booklet in as it suggests, will this take a lot longer than if i go in in person? thanks, broke of leicester!
"What...? I was only saying...."

It's a number of year since I last claimed JSA, but when I did, and found work, I went in before the start date to end the claim. I think you are expected to let them know you have found work before your start date, not after. Because you did not do this, or sign on when you should have, you will have problems. Anyway normally you would've got your arrears. Checked my bank statements and the time line for me was:
19 Oct move to London (for new job)
21 Oct inform job centre that I have moved apply for JSA again, as I have moved, and then sign off as start work on 4 Nov
5 Nov receive full payment
7 Nov receive final payment

The signing book they should have given you ES40 has a card in the front complete and send back with a letter explaining why it is being sent in more than 5 days after you were due to sign.
If you're claim has been made dormant unlikely they will pay you, otherwise you may get a break.
Ask for a crisis loan if you are going to run out of money before your job pays you.
