Cancelling Virgin - problems!

in Credit cards
I recently paid off the majority of my credit card debts and set about cancelling some cards I had accumulated over the years.
Most were very understanding and sent letters confirming the closure of the account.
When I spoke to Virgin I was put through a 'special department' that tried to convince me to stay. I explained that I was clearing down my cards and the guy told me to ensure I cancelled my direct debit.
I cancelled the dd with my bank and then received a letter from Virgin telling me I was being charged £25 as they were unable to take the dd from my account.
When I called I was unlucky enough to get through to someone who in her own words 'has a problem explaining things to people'!
She confirmed the account was closed but said I was being charged as they were unable to take the dd! When I asked why they were trying to take a dd payment for a card which was not only cleared but also cancelled she said it was clearly hard for me to understand and all very complicated so she would arrange to cancel the £25 and I shouldnt worry....I asked for written confirmation and was told it wouldnt be necessary!
Just wanted to warn others to take extra care when cancelling with Virgin.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart....

I had a similar problem. I paid off the balance in full and wrote them a letter asking them to close the card. I did not close the Direct Debit as I just had a nasty feeling that they were going to take the min payment DD. Suprise suprise they took the £5 min payment which then put me £5 in credit. So I had to write them another letter asking for my £5 back. To be fair to them they have sent me a cheque for £5, not sure if the card is dead yet though.
Merry Christmas to All :xmastree:0
