New job - when to inform tax credits

I had my induction this week, first day this weekend. When is best to phone? I don't want to waste time/money calling 0845 numbers more than once.

Thanks

i would say once you have received your first pay packet. who knows, you might hate the place, and not go back after the first few days, so best not to let them know, until you are sure its gonna be permanent

  • You should let them know ASAP after you have actually started the job but you can only claim WTC if the job is expected to be for longer than 4 weeks.

I would advise against calling on a Monday as this is the busiest day to call because many people still think the offices are closed during the weekend and then they all call on a Monday!!

    Hello Gemmzie,

You can report the change on the day or just after. You will need to have the following details to hand; number of hours worked per week, start date, employers PAYE/Tax Reference or full name and address. Also, an estimate of your current yea income. Also, on the matter of phoning a 0845 number, if you follow the link below it will give you the geographical number for each office (so if you get free landline minutes it's free)

    Ooops, link doesn't work.
Still use the link but just go toward top left hand corner where it says "search to find an alternative number" and type in 0845 300 3900, it will give you the numbers you can use.
Can be used for loads of telephone numbers so I hope it helps.
