Subtitles on DVD boxsets - except on bonus!

Why is it that in the vast majority of DVD boxsets that include subtitles, the bonus features either don't have subtitles at all, or just have them in foreign languages?
Do the big brains that decide these things think that deaf english people aren't interested in the bonus items?
It's extremely unfair, because we pay exactly the same as a hearing person, sometimes more because of the extras, and then don't have access to them...
(I posted this on the Discussion forum, but nobody replied, so I'm trying here to see if anyone's annoyed at this as well)

Yup well and truly hate this
Another bug bear of mine is subtitling the first series, and not the second0 -
My partner (the deaf one) was particularly annoyed with the Lost 4 boxset.
Because of the writers' strike the season is only 14 episodes, but they added 2 whole disks of bonus material to charge the same price. Guess what, none of the bonus features have english subtitles grrrrrBeing brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
I also have this problem with the epg on freeview/sky boxes. They often indicate something is subtitled, when in fact it isnt, OR they say something isnt subtitled and it IS!!!!!!
Absolute murder trying to work out what I can watch, as I usually end up missing the first few minutes of something if I have to change the programme due to it not being subtitled as advertised.
I have asked sky time and time again to resolve this but they ignore me, but continue to increase our subscriptions0 -
Strange, usually the sky information is quite accurate (we don't have freeview).
Still annoying that most of the documentaries don't have subtitles though - sometimes when there's something that she really wants to see I'm glad we don't have neighbours above us or next to the living room
And about the quality of subtitles, specially on live programs... *roll eyes*
I see such stupid things, I wonder if they just use a machine??Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
With Sky, just try their epg and look at everything they say IS subtitled, and you will soon discover it is not the case. It also happens the other way with progs supposedly NOT subtitled and discover they actually are!
Might try and get some examples over the next few weeks and email them again.0 -

I agree with the OP - I think all DVDs should have subtitles. There's really no reason why they shouldn't!
My particular bugbear is Billy Connolly DVDs - none of them seem to have subtitles (I'm a Huuuuge fan of the Big Yin!!)DFW Official Nerd Club #1070

I've had an ongoing 'discussion' wtih Amazon for a few years because they don't give any subtitling information for dvds (they have started to now, but by no means full coverage); I used to email them and ask if a dvd had subtitles and occasionally I would get a useful answer. I have had a reply telling me that they couldnt tell me because they didnt have that information ..... duh!! They also put me onto http://dvd-subtitles.com/ which is worth a look though doesn't always have the information. I've started to buy elsewhere on line now (rarely get to the shops)... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
