oops! Posted on wrong thread! Here we go:
Gift: Handmade photo/picture frames
Make or buy? Make
Cost: pennies
Details
This is something for the children to do, my dd made one at school for me last year. She took some thick card and painted it, mine was spray painted silver. Then she stuck some pasta bows around the edges and they were painted with metallic green paint. The photo was then glued into the middle of the frame, I was chuffed with itKids could probably make their own with tinsel, glitter, different paints or pasta, beads, sequins, whatever crafty odds and ends you have lying around.
I'm an MSE winner!

Name of present? home made dinner party quiz
Do you make it or buy it? make it
Total Cost? Minimal - few sheets card, printer ink, small box and wrapping to decorate
Details (the more the better) Make your own dinner party quiz...find lots of questions online, in the news or in books along with a few foreits and have at hand. Then set up a crib on the computer to make each page fit the small box that you have and type questions onto the crb and then cut out each question and answer (you could put the question at the top and answer usidedown or on the other side depending on what you like). For extra luxury each card could be decorated with wrapping paper.
Then do a brief set of instructions and place all of the cards into the decorated box and voila...an evening of fun with a personal touch plus you can personalise questions/topics depending on the interests of the recipients.Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Name of present? embroidery message
Do you make it or buy it? make it and buy frame
Total Cost? cheap as chips if you get frame from charty shop or ikea; piece of old farbic and cotton; find a free quote on the internet or say what you want from the heart...then sew it using fabric or paper
Details (the more the better) Get a cheap frame and embellish it or redecorate if you want to (have a hunt for old matchpots which are great for this!) and then measure the "panel" of the aperature and design your design. You could do a scene (ie the persons house; a nice view or a simple love heart) and then a line of quote underneath to suit the individual - ie a picture of the moon and earth and a line saying I love you to the moon and back....whatever sloppyness you want!
You can either sew or print the quote - if you want to sew it simply write in pencil on the fabric and then sew the message and was it once finished. I will be doing two of these for friends this year just need to start!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Name of present? your time!
Do you make it or buy it? make a card saying what you will give - hours decorating/babysitting/cooking etc - whatever the recipient would value
Total Cost? your time - which is priceless. If you make a voucher do a piece of thick card and if you have nice felts or crafty stuff you would pretty it up or make a voucher on the computer
Details (the more the better) Try and think of what the recipient would value and preferably offer something that will be of some sacrificial cost to you - ie a nights free babysitting for people with children; a days decorating; free typing - whatever they would value. When I have done this I've made a card with the message typed on card and then prettied up and people have loved it. You do have to nag then to use the voucher at times though!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
:xmassmile Name of present? Time-capsule
Do you make it or buy it? make it
Total Cost? under £5
Details (the more the better) Take a jar or container (make it pretty if you wish) - a shoe box can work well, and fill it with old photos of the person who it is for and a few momentoes of times you have shared, their youth or just generally good periods e.g. a teddy or picture of their favourite childhood cartoon character, old school photos, school tie, their favourtie sweets, just anything unique and special to that person...this is such a personal gift and can be adjusted to almost anyone as it can be as humourous, sentimental, romantic or informal as you like!0 -
Name of present: Basket of Loveliness
Make or buy: neither really, but make it seems the best definition.
Total cost: Cost of basket and ribbons, anyway under £5, it's in your control!
Details: I receive loads of freebies because of other purchases during the year, which I don't really need. Usually these are cosmetics, skincare, haircare etc. (e.g. I have an Occitane travel gift set which must be worth a fiver at least). Arrange these gorgeously in a basket with tissue and ribbons, or confetti, unused pretty hankies or whatever, Decorate with a ribbon. Give it as a basket of loveliness. Boots do a lot of extras if you order online or get No7 stuff in the shops. Pass it on. Goes down well with young teenaged girlie relatives.0 -
