That one does not make doughnuts it makes sponge cakes !! Proper doughnuts are deep fried in oil.

But they do not taste the same as proper deep fried doughnuts. My son has one and I am not really impressed with the taste.
  • If you want "proper" doughnuts then get a splodger thing which makes the batter into a ring, and a deep fat fryer.

I love proper fried doughnuts that are moist and doughy. Not many places do them now.

I blame Health & Safety *1/Cost cutting *2 and Morrisons *3 - when I worked in Tesco in the early 1990's they made proper doughnuts from scratch, proved them overnight and fried them in big fryers the next morning. Prob about 95/96 they got rid of it all and started getting frozen jam doughnuts in and heating them up in the oven for 5 mins. A tradgedy !

*1 - All that hot fat not good for accidents
*2 - Much less labour intensive
*3 - They started this whole 10 for a £1 thing off in my opinion which devalued the doughnut.
