HSBC want to see me?

Sorry to those who work there, but I rerally do not take kindly to having my time and fuel wasted.

Nor should you. If it was me, I'd be writing to the manager, asking why I was requested to attend in the first place. If the letter made it sound like it wasn't optional, all the more reason to complain. Ask for a credit to cover your (reasonable) expenses. Word it right, be polite, and I'd be surprised if they didn't play ball.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Hi,
Anyway, as usual they took the opportunity to try to sell me home insurance, apply for a credit card, open a deposit account, ISA et all. They then tried to get me to upgrade my account to a full current account etc etc. None of which I either want or need as I am happy with my current arrangements.
Peter
I suspect that was their real reason for dragging you in, although of course all of the HSBC Staff on here will deny it, it is disgraceful that they waste people's time like this.0 -

OP: is the account a Basic Bank Account? If so, you're not allowed to have one as a secondary account - it has to be your only bank account anywhere, as it's specifically for people who otherwise can't get bank accounts (even existing HSBC customers with Current Accounts aren't allowed a BBA in addition to it). If they're closing your account, they will most likely do so for that reason.
If it's an Instant Access Savings Account (the old Flexible Saver, with a card), then what I'm saying is rubbish.
I've had a current account with HSBC for 7 years now. A few months ago, they allowed me to open a Basic Bank Account as a joint account with my fiancee, alongside my current account.0 -

And to be honest, I'd agree that it is bad to drag someone in under that false pretense. Call it an account review, fine, but don't pretend that it's something desperately important, or make people think that it is.0 -

Exactly. I got a letter from my bank last year, asking that I get in touch with them. I phoned the number, it went to voicemail, I left a message, they never called back.
I still don't know what it was about, but the letter made it seem important. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
