Hello again.
OH will be out of work as of Friday when his working contract comes to an end. Plenty of applications and 2 interviews in the last weeks, but no job offers so it looks like he may have to claim.
However, my question is, what if he doesn't claim JSA? I mean, does he have to claim it in order to get housing benefits, child tax credits etc?? Or does it just make life difficult to claim these things?? (We currently get CTC). I understand that JSA will also contribute towards his NI, so this alone is worth signing on.
I ask as last time he signed on, the treatment from the jobcentre when he signed on just made him even more depressed (although to be fair, there were lots of reasons at the time he was depressed) and as I know OH better than anyone else, it may not be a good idea to "force him" to sign on, so to speak.
I know that this is a really odd question, but as with everyone else, I am just wanting to do whats right by my family - and sometimes health is far more important than a bit of JSA money.

He doesn't have to sign on and can still claim HB and CTB without. However you'd be losing £94.95 pw
There's nothing stopping you swapping claimant roles and you signing on instead. It will be a passport to various other benefits as you probably know so it would be as wellI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0
