Child tax credits refund

Thought I would bring some good news to the forum. At the beginning of the year I discovered that anyone who had been on invilidity benifit before 1995 their income for tax credit should not have been taken into account since 2002. I complained as mine had always been taken into account but was told I could only claim up to three months for their mistake. Anyway I got a nicew surprise in my bank today a large lump sum from child tax credit. I admediately phoned them as I assumed it was a mistake and they told me its no mistake but they have backdated all the money since 2002. As you can imagine I am very happy especially with Xmas coming up. A nice result:beer: So anyone in the same position please do notify the tax credits agency as you to could be intitled to a refund

  • Congrats on the good news.

I will assume you were given incorrect information and this is how you managed to get the rebate.

However, the claim form and annual renewal notes advise you not to include this income if you claimed Invalidity Benefit before April 1995.

    Hello fabwitch,

Congrats on the refund. Just to point out though, I have worked for TC for 3.5 years and the 3 renewal periods I have been involved in it has always stated not to include the IB prior to 1995. Therefore, if you declared it that's not TC's fault- unless you where advised to include it of course. Never the less, congrats.

Ps, It also doesn't mean everyone who has declared it will get an underpayment as it dependant on all their incomings.
