Not sure whether this is the correct place to post, but sure someone will tell me - I need help, my DS wants an xbox for Christmas if I purchase one of the bundles from Amazon or Sainsbury's do I need to get anything else to go with it - will he be able to plug it into the TV on christmas day and just play it?

    Hi!
    I've got an Xbox 360.

Assuming your telly has enough free sockets for the XBox to plug into (ideally an HDMI one) and there's a spare power socket somewhere nearby then it is plug and go. If you are using HDMI ask when you buy the xbox does it include an HDMI cable, if not you may need to buy one which shouldn't be too expensive online (fiver or so.)

The only other thing to be aware of is if your son wants to play online you'll need to connect the xbox to the internet. My xbox is next to my router so it's simply a matter of plugging the thing in. If you want to use a wireless connection then I think the wireless adaptors are around £35 or so.

    I hope that helps

The above about the XBox is correct.
If you are on a HDTV, just check exactly what cables are in the box. The most recent consoles off the production line do not include High def cables as far as i am aware, just composite (Red, White, Yellow / scart plug).
There are a few options for HD cables (Component, VGA, HDMI), but HDMI is the cheapest if your TV has a HDMI plug on the back.

For online, if he wants to play online it will cost a yearly subscription fee (XBox Live Gold). Can be bought through the XBox or xbox.com, but its cheaper to look around and buy a code elsewhere. They may still include a 30 day free trial in the box though.
Otherwise, he can still get connected to the internet to download games, connect to MSN (and soon Facebook), watch movies, make friends etc. This is all totally free (XBox Live Silver), it just doesnt include playing the games online with others.
  • Looking for 2 DS's (lites or not!) for xmas presents - cheapest seems to be £100. Has anyone seen any better deals?

    Thanks in advance

  • hi I ordered the £199 deal from amazon. The price came up ok for me, have you clicked from free delivery, as when I went to checkout it clicked the box to pay for delivery this could be the discrepancy with the cost.

    Hope this helps

Wii and Sports Resort with Motion Plus is £135.99 at Sainsbury's with free next day delivery. Way cheaper than any other Wii offers I've seen in the past few weeks - almost as cheap as Amazon do the basic Wii package (when they actually have it in stock). It's also available via Quidco which gets you a further 4% off :D

Says offer is until the 17th Nov and while stocks last.

Looks like other consoles are 20% off too. There are 3 PS3 bundles at £199.99, black or white DSi at £119.97 and a PSP bundle at £119.99

Can't include the links as it says I'm a "new user" (I'm not new at all, just have posted little). Go to sainsburys . co . uk and you can't miss the 20% off banner.

    Cheers,
    Jon.
