New House purchase - Meters

Hello all,

First time poster so go easy on me! I'm almost at the verge of completion of purchasing my first house, and I've found out today that the house I'm buying has token meters for the electric and has a gas key so I'm wondering if that's a token meter too.

The question I have therefore is how do I go about switching that to a normal meter where they send a nice bill in the post and not one which I have to go to the shop and top up and which costs the earth? It's currently with British Gas but I did think of switching to Scottish Power.

So how easy is it to switch and how quickly would they do it? Most importantly, what meter do I need to ask them to switch it to when I move in?

You call them up when you move in and ask them to swap it to a regular meter where you receive bills.

Some companies might ask you to wait for four weeks before they will change it (to see that you're a good customer), others will book you in as soon as they are able to do it.
