working 16 hours a week - can you claim JSA ?

hi everyone,
a friend has found part time temporary work for 4 weeks. he will be working weekends for exactly 16 hours.

obviously he will inform jobcentre. but he wants to know can he still claim job seekers allowance ?

if not then he will also lose housing benefit (he gets 85 pound a week for that) and therefore it wouldnt be worth him working part time.

He won't be entitled to JSA working 16 hours but may be entitled to some housing benefit. He would need to claim this directly through the local authority.

no wonder so many people prefer living on benefits. its not because they cant find a job but because they are better off without a job!

He may well still be entitled to full housing and council tax benefit depending on his circumstances. So even just working 16 hours he'd be better off than on JSA!
