i've just got my revised bills after submitting meter readings:
both 30.7.08 - 28.10.08
equipower standard
electric: (currently 14.16p per kwh, was 11.65p before october)
406 units used
total £51.29 after prompt payment
easy to work out elec usage just times number of units by 14.16p and add vat @ 5%
gas: (was 2.72p per kwh now 3.59p before october)
27 units used
x 2.83 (imperial to metric conversion factor)
x 1.02264 (correction factor)
x 39.1 (calorific value)
/ 3.6 (kwh conversion factor)
= 848.57 kwh used
total bill £26.52
bit more complicated to work out the cost based on imperial units, i noticed on other threads about x 31, which gives approx result is that correct?

Yes. x31 or x32 for (your) imperial meter or x11 for a metric meter.0

thanks kim that makes it a lot easier than doing the exact calculation

I've found multiplying it by 11 is a very inaccurate figure. Using the other method is much better!0

on the subject of gas / elec cost, how many here pay by direct debit ? initially i was set up on DD at about £20 and £25 a month, but i cancelled as i wanted to keep an eye on my usage and only pay what i used. i guess after say 6 months i might return to DD knowing my approx usage to help with monthly budgeting.0

I don't understand how cancelling the DD is advantageous if you want to keep an eye on your usage. If after six months, you found the DD was not in line with your usage, you could have requested an amendment or cancelled then.0 -
I suppose, but i'm not sure there is a DD discount, i think they only do a prompt payment discount which i get anyway if i pay before a certain date after my bill..0

If you can afford the payments there is little point cancelling direct debits. Paying an extra £25 every month would only lose you £7 interest over one year - much smaller than direct debit discounts. And the chances of you keeping that extra £25 in the bank is very small so lost interest is moot.
(info about no DD discount crossed in the aether)0 -
equipower is the ebico electricity tariffSo which supplier does not give a discount for paying by DD?
(I'm guessing gas is with ebico too based on unit price)
No silly discounts with ebico, not for DD nor for prompt payment. One price for all."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
