No experience of Panasonic but I have a Canon Ixus which replaced a Fuji camera (Fujinon lens). Canon lenses are superb and result in excellent pictures, far superior, in my eyes, to Fujinon. I don't know which lenses Panasonic use but I think some of their camcorders use Schneider (whoever they are) lenses.
I'd opt for Canon for the lens alone.0 -
I'd go for a Canon every time0

Panasonic use lenses designed by Leica, they're one of the few non-traditional camera manufacturers I'd consider buying a a camera from. In fact earlier this year I did, a TZ3 and very happy I am with it too.
I'd look at the feature list for each camera and check reviews and then get whichever suits your needs best. Looking at those two they both have 10x optical zoom but the Canon goes from 36mm-360m and the Pansonic from 28mm-280mm. Personally I think the wider angle of the Pansonic is more useful. I certinaly find it very useful on my TZ3.
Check out reviews on https://www.trustedreviews.com They have reviewed both and gave both 9/10 and awarded both "TR recommended"
I doubt if you'd go wrong with either but there are some significant differences in spec. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

Panasonic have been in partnership with Lecia for development of their lenses. The lenses on panasonics are usually very good because of it. I'm a big panny fan (i've got a FZ5, FX33 and a L10 DSLR)
Take a look at the sample images on this site:

Take note on how the Canon has more of a fish-eye effect at the wide angle. However, it appears to have a bit less noise at higher ISOs..
Tough call.. i'd take a look through more sample images as they both look very similar in capabilities. I'd agree that a wider angle is of more use than a bigger zoom.. so for that reason, i'd get the Panasonic. Oh yes, and don't let Canon zealots tell you Pannys have bad lenses either

Panasonic here as well, but a close call.
Both are very good camera's.0 -
Another couple of good review sites are http://www.dpreview.com/ and http://www.steves-digicams.com/
They offer very comprehensive reviews.
Me personally, I would go for the Canon as I am a Canon fan and had a fair few, however, the panasonic is a nice camera. I have found them a little noisy in low light conditions though.0 -
These sorts of questions come up all the time with camera equipment and every time it really comes down to personal preference. You'll get roughly equal numbers in each camp telling you how great their 'xyz' camera is and that you'll not go far wrong with it but the best advice really is for you to get yourself down to Jessops and the like and have a go yourself. That way you'll be able to make a properly informed decision of which one you like the best and find the most intuitive to use.
Then you can come back here and ask everyone for suggestions on where to get the best price for it.
Happy hunting and let us know what you go for.0 -
Flip a coin with this one. Same size sensors. Any sites with sample pics?

If you had more money for zoom FZ28 or even more money LX30 -
Canon and Nikon are suposed to be the premium manufacturors with photography. This is what I was told when studying photography at A Level. So i'd go with canon every time. Never let me down, but had to sell all my equipment, but thats a whole new story lolIf you wish in this world to advance, your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, or trust me, you haven't a chance.0
