5.1 Surround Sound system - help needed from someone techie!

Hi
I'm looking to buy a surround sound system for someone and have looked at the LG HT903TA which seems a good system for the money. I know very little about surround sound though and would appreciate some advice if possible. Here is a link to the full spec and as you can see it is currently £289 on ebuyer.
It is for a largish room so it would be handy to know what kind of length cable comes with this as well if anyone has the system...?
Does this seem a good spec for the price? Are there anythings in particular that I should look for? This is towards the top end of my budget and I don't have the experience to put together a system myself so I'm really looking for a one box job.
Sorry to ask so many questions but as this is a significant buy I don't want to waste money on something that ends up disappointing.
Thanks in advance for your help - any guidance would be gratefully received!

Personally, I think that type of kit is rubbish. Why? Because it's basically a DVD player with a built in decoder. If the DVD player goes wrong, you're stuffed. If you want to replace the DVD player with a Blu-Ray, if you're already using the TOSLink, you're stuffed.

Far better to buy a proper standalone surround sound amplifier. You can buy a dedicated one such as Panasonic with a full set of speakers from Richer sounds and have change out of £250. Also 1000W is too much. I have 100W speakers in mine and I can't sit in the same room with it turned up more than 3/4. Far better to have lower output and better quality.
