The uni library. If they don't have it then they can do an inter-library loan for it, although you may have to ask your department to do that for you. Or even your local library might have some of them. If not, then try the university book shop, if there is one.

All the usual websites (Amazon, Play, etc) might do them, and on Amazon Marketplace or Play Trade you can get books quite cheap.

The Politics of Police- Amazon new £22.79 or from Marketplace second had £14.50
criminal justice by peter joyce Amazon new £24.69 or market place from £19.42
policing a short history by philip rawlings Amazon new £17.99 or from marketplace used from £14.46

I can't even match the £21.99 on the fist book. Just remember that buying direct from Amazon will mean free delivery but a possible wait (they are not the fastest shippers in the world) but if you use market place sellers it *might* be quicker (always check feedback) but you will pay an additional £2.75 per book postage.

It's also worth checking Waterstones online as there are often discount vouchers available to reduce the costs.

have you looked for international editions? They are black and white but about half the price.

I ordered some from china, cost me £21 including postage for a book that cost £44 on amazon and i couldnt find it cheaper anywhere else.

eBay. I'm currently selling one my old uni books on there. Just make sure you look at the postage costs, especially if they're heavy books!

Also ask yourself... do you really need to buy them? Are they in your uni library? If so have a look at them and if you think they may be useful, buy them (especially if the uni have few copies of them). I only bought 2 books at uni as the uni's resources were good.
  • Do you need the whole books or just particular chapters. If so Google Books could be useful. Some have quite a few of the chapters online (only limited preview so not the whole book).
