Don't hold your breath! I tried to get 11 fridges and 2 £400ish TVs and the wouldn't budge apart from about £2 per item...and that was only after phoning the business line.
Let us know how you get on though...would be interested to see what's said!
ELEVEN fridges!??!?!?!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
You will usually get a better price (ie a bigger discount) by buying somewhere else.
That's why Comet are going down the pan. Too expensive (as well as surly staff with BO and the worst customer service in the sector).
Try your local retailers. You may be pleasantly surprised!
I recently bought a Panasonic washer from Peter Tyson (local retailer to me who do also have a national online presence) - they were approx £50 cheaper than anyone else AND they delivered the same day in my case.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Check if the items are available elsewhere. They have been known to price match0

Hi,
You should have a try, what have you got to loose!? I beleive if your not cheeky and dont ask, you dont get! I recently haggled in pcworld when buying a camera. I came away with a free memory card, it should cost me £20. Not mega money but better than nothing. I was very happy.0 -
Wonder what model it was.0

Just 'haggled' a £8,475 kitchen down to £6,200 by using a trade account card and then getting a further 10% off. Not sure if this is a good deal, but expected to pay £6,500 so I'm happy!:j0

Hi all
There's a sale on at B and S and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience haggling with them? Do they entertaing this at all? What kind of reductions do they usually make on large purchases? Wish to putchase a dining set and living room furniture for circa £6000. Any ex employees or current employees tips would be useful. Thanks0 -
Hi
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I couldn't find anywhere else!
I have £1000-1500 to spend on a new amplifier and some speakers (or maybe a posh all-in-one hi-fi plus chunky speakers) and the only shop in my area with kit in that price range is Richer Sounds. Does anyone have any idea what would be a reasonable discount to get from them by haggling? Generally their prices seem to be on a par with online sites so I don't see much room there. Before buying I'd scan the Web first of course just in case!
I've read Martin's haggling tips and watched that Justin Preston fella on Channel 4 and haggling never goes that well for me!! How I wish they would hook their subjects up with hidden cameras to see if they usually get the kind of immovable objects I encounter when haggling!! Of course the car dealer or shop keeper is going to feel more open to giving these people a good deal when there's a camera crew there!!
The last time I went to buy a used car the guy I came across offered me an adequate price for my trade-in and simply refused to negotiate on the balance for the car I wanted. I offered my cheeky price, my acceptable price and my limit price and he wouldn't move one inch - not even the offer of a new battery even though he'd had to jump the car so that I could take it for a test drive! And this was the main Kia dealer in town. These consumer shows never seem to come up against people like that - hidden cameras might help!
Anyway, back to hi-fi......I don't know what Richers' mark-up is but it would be nice to get something at a good price as that's a lot of money for me! Does anyone know what to aim for so that we're both happy?
Thanks0 -
Im not the type of person to haggle face to face so I shocked myself when I went into a Hugo Boss store, wanted 2 suits which were priced at a total of £1400. I asked about a discount on both - answer we dont discount on our suits. So I accepted 1 at £660 - after I came out of the changing room, they had given it some thought and said we can offer both at £1038 - Didnt really haggle just sorta happened0
