Argos has charged people twice: check your statements

What’s happened?

If you shopped in Argos recently, it might be worth checking your bank or card statement. The store’s charged 190,000 people twice, due to a system error.

The error only affected purchases made on Friday 24 Oct, so if you bought something then, check your bank statement to see if you were double-charged.

What happens now?

Argos says it's now refunded all the cash, but it might take several days for the cash to come through to your account. If yours doesn’t arrive, call customer services on 0845 6403030.

thanks for this my statement came today and i have been charged twice!! was going to check my xmas present receipts to double check i hadnt bought 2 things of same price on same day, thought it was unlikely!!

This happened to me as well and i was lucky to notice it within 3 days so i rang the store.They apologised and explained the situation to me and told me that i was among many that this had happened to and told me the money would be back in my account within 5 days.This WAS the case and even though it should never have happened i applaud Argos for the swift action.:T.I hope others had the same result and were not plunged into financial problems because of the fault.

Happened to be the day that we bought a PS3 package for £349.00!! We were horrified to check our bank balance online on the Tuesday and thought it was the bank in error. We emailed them and got no reply for 2 days but found out via Yahoo news what had happened. It was quite a relief in a way as we imagined having to battle to get our money back. It was back in by the Thursday so panic over!

Think that Argos could have gone public quicker than it did and would've have saved a lot of worry.

i never pay them for stuff on my debit card anyway,
once i paid for something, got my receipt,
waited for around 30 mins at the pick up point to be told it wasn't in stock!
refunded my money but took 5 working to go back into my account which left me skint has i had to still buy the item elsewhere,
why is it they can take the money within seconds, but days to refund it,
they wouldn't even give me a credit note to go to another argos store a few miles away.

I dont know where to post this, but ASDA warburtons seeded batch is £1 per loaf, but till receipt showed I was charged £1.51 per loaf, 6 loaves £3.03 overcharged!!!!! Complained and got money back, but how many of you check tilll receipts?

the disney shop did this charge twice to me they charged in january when i bought the item and again in may. Rang their customer service department and got a £15 goft voucher for the trouble..

Should also get a £2 giftcard per overcharge so you should have been given £12 on a giftcard as well as your cash back.

This happened to me aswell. I went straight to the store after ringing my credit card company up for advice. I have now been refunded. the best bit is that the manager said if I got any card charges because of it if I ran customer services they would refund me. I asked him if they will refind petrol costs for having to travel to the store aswell as call costs to my credit card company, he immediately offered me a £5 voucher. Bargain!

Happens in our Asda regularly!!
I pay and then stand at end of checkout and check my receipt every time now.

Never had any gift card for their error though.......

Most times staff offer straight away as an apology.... however I have noticed certain staff members dont... on those occasions I take the refund and ask to see the duty manager...

funny how that jogs their memory!
