I am just starting out on a new venture and need to set up a simple website.
All it needs to have is details of my company, pictures of a selection of my products and contact info. I also need to register my domain name which is available and was looking at fasthosts for doing it all....does this sound ok!?
Basically i am an outside caterer so it will only be local people i will be targeting so they can have a look at sample menus and email me for a quote ect,i just wasnt sure what to do first, and wether fasthosts offer of £1.99 for the first 3 months is right for me,or does it need to be fancier!? Will i be capeable of creating the website myself through fasthosts ( im ok on the computer but panic if i get stuck, lol)
Also will i be able to run the website from my home broadband (aol) ? I dont expect a huge amount of traffic as it really is only suitable for local people (and im in northern ireland so much smaller than uk!) does this make a difference to the type of website i need?
Thank you so much for reading......i think im even more confussed myself now!!

Microsoft provide a free service for small business, nice and easy and free; www.officelive.com
Good luckSince when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
There's lots of options for you. Here's a few you can try:
1) Microsoft are offering a small business hosting package free for the first year: http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/?cloc=en-gb I haven't heard any reports about this package but being Microsoft I'd say they use reputable providers. But beware the famous MS lock-in, check out that you can export your web site or it's content easily, should you want to change providers.
2) I've recommended Brinkster (http://www.brinkster.com/FreePkgLanding.aspx) on this forum a few times. It's completely free and very easy to set up. But your web site address would be something like www.<yourname>.brinkster.net. unless you pay for hosting. But on the plus side your site will never cost you anything; so no hosting or domain fees.
3) Another very popular alternative is a business blog. I like https://www.wordpress.com it's also free, but the neat thing is you have the option to add your own domain name for a small fee (about £10) So you get the ease and convenience of a hosted "point and click" solution (effectively for free), with the commercial advantage of your own domain name. There's other blog providers too like https://www.blogger.com and https://www.typepad.com
Good luck with your site, I'd love to see it when it's finished, maybe the mods would allow a little link on this thread only!
