I pay £41.01 per month to Scottish power for Gas and Electric. About 3 months ago I got a letter from them, saying we have decreased the price now to £41.00 - a grand saving of 1p.

Every 3 months I put in the new meter readings and it say show much I owe, and it takes it from my account. I overpay, so after paying the quaterly bill there is still about £30 in my account, but I like the set bill so don't mind too much.

Anyway, I updated these meter readings yesterday and got an email just now from them saying:

As part of our ongoing commitment to deliver the best customer service we can, we have now introduced a regular check to ensure your payments closely match your consumption. This also takes into account any recent changes to your unit prices.

This review shows that your current payments are not in line with your ongoing use.*

To avoid any underpayment on your account, we have revised your monthly Direct Debit payment to £56.50.

So the new figure is now £56.50, which is £16.50 increase.

I'm considering changing now, as that is a fair amount of money, although I'm aware of the rising utilities costs, but think I can do better, also considering other companies offer a cash back promition too, it may be more beneficial to change.

Any thoughts?

Unless you have a very flat useage over winter compared to summer that is a very small increase.

The easiest way to compare is to throw in your annual useage (not spend) in the comparison calculators and have a look. How does the prices you are paying now compare? If you're after cashback remember you won't receive annual discounts and they are (fortunately) decreasing in size -£5 to £20 unless you switch to Scottish Power.
